The Client and Their Brief

Earlier this year we worked with Walker Agency to produce a set of social assets for  the new Chupa Chups, Stranger Things lollies. Quite the tie up! Chupa Chups and Netflix need very little introduction, nor does the hit show Stranger things. This project comes ahead of the release of Season 5 of the show which is coming out in late November 2025. We all love the show here at DE, the retro look and feel, the music, supernatural element and strong characters are all rich grounds for inspiration. No bad thing when tasked with producing engaging content. The lovely bunch at Walker came to us with lots of great ideas which we worked together on to bring to life.

The requirements included videos for TikTok and Instagram, and stills for various promotional channels, PR, web, print.

What We Did

Pre-production was really important for this project. We knew we needed three setting’s; a living room (in the style on Will’s Mums house in the show), a supermarket, and a lab table. We called our set builder and liased with the stylist on this project Lucy Bruns. We needed to capture the 80’s vibe so the sets and props were key, so to was the lighting. We knew we needed to turn each set into the upside down, going from warm or neutral lighting to  atmospheric, dark blue for a supernatural feel. Building time into our shoot days for that was a big part of the planning process, what are the changes of lighting modifiers, do we have enough gels etc.! Once the structure was in place we drove a van around to pickup the big items of furniture, sofas, tables, and some old supermarket shelving.

Most of the content was being filmed for social channels by Walker in a POV style. We co-directed and gaffed the sets, once they were in the bag we jumped in to capture the required stills from each set. We finished on the supermarket set in the upside down which left us with a lot to clear up!

How It Looks

The Results

The fun of Lollipops and Sci-fi! Who wouldn’t love to be involved with this production!
Firstly, we have very happy clients! The project was fun, but also ambitious with the time we had. The sets and lighting really transport you into the world of Stranger Things. The creative was signed off by Netflix and The Duffer Brothers, and if the original creators are happy, I think that’s a job well done.
The videos have organically performed incredibly well on the Chupa Chips social channels and the bags of lollies are in the shops now!

What The Client Said

This project was an absolute dream to work on! Some of the coolest content we have ever made!
