We were thrilled to shoot a new range of male skincare product photography for Neal’s Yard; a fantastic UK company specialising in natural and organic health and beauty products.
What We Did
Earlier this year we worked on a portraiture shoot for one our regular clients, Neal’s Yard. During this shoot we were required to photograph two male models who would be using a variety of skin products from the Neal’s Yard mens range. This male skincare product photography shoot was slightly different as we were asked to shoot video along side the stills. Using our large studio facilities we were able to have two matching sets allowing us to run stills and video side by side. Using continuous lighting on both sets ensured that our usual strobe flash didn’t present an issue to the video team!
We took care to light the models in a way that gave texture and depth to the skin and products, but wasn’t adding in too much contrast. We used a selection of great lighting, including Arri HMI’s, Arri Skypanels and Hedler. The balancing of HMI white balance was straight forward, and all provided high CRI output flicker free.

The Results
We were very happy with the lighting results on the face; which was a combination of Arri and Hedler continuous HMI light. The lighting setup was primarily book lighting, with additional light through a trace frame and rim light that was added in and slightly cooled down with a blue gel. The campaign for Neal’s Yard was very sucessfull and helped launch a great new range of male skincare products.
